I have realized that storms will scare us, excite us, make us doubt, worry us, stress us out, make us mad and bring out numerous negative emotions. That storm can be literal or figurative, but the common responses remain the same. I have realized some facts about storms. One fact is that the storm has nothing to do with me. Another fact is the storm is something that I cannot change. The only thing that I can change is my response to the storm. I can hide from the storm or I can face it head on - now, I am not saying run out into a tornado, but I am saying that I have to find a way to remain calm during the storm. I have perspective. I have the knowledge that I need to find ways to remain calm during the worst storms!
I also have to refer to my Bible on this one. I am reminded of Matthew 8:23-27.
Jesus Calms the Storm
23 And when He entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. 24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea in so much that the ship was covered with the waves, but He was asleep. 25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying ," Lord save us: we will perish." 26 And He saith unto them," Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?" Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 But the men marveled, saying, "What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?"In the midst of a storm, I must remind myself that what is impossible with man is possible with God! I have the power to choose how I react to these storms. I will not give the power to others or things to take away my calm! I read somewhere the other day, but can't remember where I saw it. It really hit home with me. It said something like, pain is inevitable, but suffering is a choice. In life, we will go through trials and pain. It is up to us to figure out our own ways to remain calm in the midst of it all!
